Our firm
Twenty-five years of plain-spoken counsel.
Halberd & Vane began in 2001 with one lawyer, one paralegal and a promise to explain every step. The team is larger now. The promise is the same.

History
A firm built one client at a time.
Edmund Halberd opened the doors in 2001 after years advising owner-led companies. Marguerite Osei joined in 2008 and built the estate planning group; the Port Sutter office followed in 2014.
Today the firm has six attorneys, a small team of paralegals and client coordinators, and eight practice areas. We stay mid-sized on purpose, so that clients can reach the lawyer who knows their file.

How we work
Values we hold ourselves to.
01
Plain language
If a client cannot repeat our advice to someone else, we have not explained it well enough.
02
Candour about cost
Estimates in writing, updates when they change and no surprises on the invoice.
03
Independence of judgment
We tell clients what we think, including when it is not what they hoped to hear.
